| General Questions
How can I get more information about Student Backup?
Will Student Backup work if I take my computer home during the semester break, or do I have to be at school in order for Student Backup to work?
Student Backup will work if you take your computer home from school as long as it is connected to the internet using all connection services except for a dial-up.
Why is there an SB icon on the bottom right of my screen (Windows 7, Vista, & XP)?
The SB icon signals the user that the program is running and gives you access to the program console.
Why “backing up your documents remotely” is considered more beneficial?
The data is immediately stored off-site using an automated backup system. Only an internet connection is needed, eliminating the need for expensive backup equipment and media. Because the system is automated, no user interaction is required.
After I installed Student Backup on my Mac, I can’t remove my Student Backup CD.
Just restart your Mac computer. You then will be able to eject the CD.
I do not see my school name on the list!
During the Student Backup installation, we ask you to select your school name from a list as part of the registration process. We have tried our best to use the actual school name and not its nickname or initials, although you may find, for example, Miami University listed as University of Miami, or visa versa.
If you do not find your school name, please go to the top of the list and select "Other;" you will be able to carefully type the proper school name in the dialog box.
Is the Student Backup service associated with the college where it was bought?
No; the Student Backup service is associated with the computer on which it is installed.
You can transfer the service to another computer when you replace the computer it is
registered to.
Why does my Student Backup icon appear all black?
Most computer users set their display color setting to 32-bits to get the most benefit from their monitors. Either by user choice or due to running some game programs, the color is reset to 16 bit in order to get a slightly better performance of the computer. At this setting the Student backup icon will appear all black. To change your color setting to 32 bit, go to Display Setting in your control panel and reset it to 32 bit.
Changing Computers? (for either PC or Mac)
When you purchase a new computer (PC or Mac) and you want to transfer your Student Backup program to the new computer, just reinstall the Student Backup program by doing the following.
Go to www.studentbackup.com and select Login To Your Account. Please login with your username and password (there will be a hint if you have forgotten your password).
